Privacy and safety, in plain words

No name, no surname, no email address, no phone number and no ID number are needed to use the SOS button, the map, reporting, walk with me, the check in timer, the fake call or drive with me. There is no account for any of it.

The only part with an account is the sister circle chat room, because a room open to anyone cannot be kept safe. There you choose a nickname and only that nickname is ever shown.

Your trusted circle, the first name you type for your alert message, your language choice and your check in timer are stored on your own phone. They are never uploaded to us and we cannot read them. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Three things, and only these three:

One, your phone works out where you are. Two, a pin with that position and the time is saved so other women can see that an alert was raised nearby. Three, ready made messages and call buttons appear so you can reach your circle and the emergency numbers in one tap.

Nothing is sent to anyone on its own. Safraia has no direct link with the police, with ADT or with any armed response company. A message only goes out when you tap it, and a call only happens when you place it. The app will never tell you that help is on the way, because it cannot know that.

On the community map an alert shows only a rough area of about one kilometre and the time. Your name, your note and your exact position are not readable by other users. Alert areas stop showing after twelve hours.

The people in your circle can see nothing at all until you choose to send them something. They have no standing access to your location. When you tap to message someone, that one message carries where you were at that moment.

You can remove anyone from your circle at any time on the circle screen, and removing them takes effect immediately.

Walk with me sends your position in a message you tap, and lets you tell your circle when you have arrived. Drive with me creates one private link with a long random address that cannot be guessed, and only that link shows your latest position.

When you tap that you arrived safely, the drive is closed and the stored position is removed, so the link shows nothing further. You can stop sharing at any moment by ending the drive.

A report carries the type of concern, the place or street, a short description and the time. It carries no name, no account and no phone number, so it cannot be traced back to you by other users.

Reports are meant to describe a place and a risk, not to accuse a person. Please do not put anyone's full name, photograph, home address, phone number or vehicle registration in a report. Those submissions can be removed.

Moderation today is light: reports that break these rules are removed when they are found, and messages in the chat room are hidden automatically once three members report them. Stronger moderation is on the list of work still to come.

No information is sold or handed to advertisers. The map background comes from OpenStreetMap and the list of nearby police stations, hospitals and garages is a public OpenStreetMap search, so those services see the ordinary requests any map app makes. WhatsApp and your phone's dialler handle the messages and calls you choose to make.

Alert areas disappear from view after twelve hours. A drive is deleted when you close it. Reports stay on the map so they remain useful as a warning. Everything on your phone stays until you delete it.

Safraia is not integrated with SAPS, ADT or any other responder. It puts their numbers one tap away. In immediate danger, call 10111.
